ABOUT
The Center on American Law and Extremism (CALE) is a non-profit organization in New York. Working at the intersection of law and extremist violence prevention, CALE promotes education and advances knowledge among policymakers, practitioners, and scholars. To facilitate collaboration and the robust exchange of ideas, CALE convenes professionals involved in the prevention of extremist and targeted violence, while generating and disseminating cutting edge research to the community of prevention practitioners and other interested professionals.
We have developed expertise on the compliance obligations of prevention practitioners in New York State. Among other initiatives underway, CALE is planning projects in the areas of bystander training and research to support
community-based programs for the prevention of targeted violence.
CALE was established in December 2022, with a five-member Board of Directors. Kelly Berkell, CALE's Executive Director, is an attorney, a senior research fellow at the Center on Terrorism, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and an adjunct professor at John Jay College.
